The sacred colours of the forest

Plant pigment workshop

Family

In this family workshop, artist and healer Elías Mamallacta invites us to explore colours as sacred vehicles for understanding and honouring the biodiversity of the Amazon rainforest.

Colours are not just pigments; they are sacred entities that reflect the Kichwa philosophy of colour and are intimately related to the spirit of plants. In the Kichwa world view, the rainbow is a symbolic bridge that connects different places and states of consciousness. This natural phenomenon becomes a powerful metaphor of ascending or descending to different levels of knowledge and perception.

Taking as our starting point the work of Elías Mamallacta based on the power of Amazonian plants to cure, we’ll use natural pigments obtained from roots, seeds and leaves to make our own creations as we learn about the connection between the art and the ancestral wisdom of the forest.
