The Cost of Fear

Lecture by Hakan Günday

Hakan Günday is one of the most celebrated young novelists in today’s Turkish literary scene. Winner of the 2015 Prix Médicis Étranger.

It took hundreds of years of intellectual struggle for Europe to create its progressive values—and just a couple of decades to forget that a progressive value needs to be constantly developed. So Europe has become a "museum of values". By trying to solve new problems with old solutions, it has brought on an existential crisis. And the most popular product during periods of crisis is fear. Perhaps it's time for Europeans to ask its price.
