Poet on a Business Trip

The CCCB's cinema

Audiovisuals

Presented at the Rotterdam Film Festival in 2015, Ju Anqi’s documentary portrays the adventures of the young poet Shu in China’s inhospitable Xinjiang province, his meeting with local people, his weary progress on his journey, and his relations with prostitutes.

Filmed in 2002, Poet on a Business Trip was not edited until ten years later. The film is based on the 16 poems that Shu wrote on his travels, reflecting the vicissitudes of his road trip. More than the account of an eventful journey, the film becomes an exercise in memory around a territory and people who no longer exist as they were filmed, due to the rapid transformation of China in recent decades.

Session programmed by Susana Sanz.
