Viva Varda!

One Narrates and So Does the Other

Experimenting counter-writing, with Irene Moray

Courses and workshops

Agnès Varda’s filmography resonates with feminist demands and various social struggles from the 1960s to the 2000s. Filmmaker Irene Moray proposes a continuation of Varda’s contributions with a workshop on the construction of rebellious, subversive female characters who leave stereotypes behind.

This workshop proposes a rewriting exercise to break some of the visual and narrative clichés that have become entrenched throughout the history of cinema, and which Varda also explored. What bodies can be filmed from the viewpoint of desire, free from the threat of punishment? What representations of masculinities can be liberating and favourable to the eradication of violence?

Irene Moray will accompany us in the creation, through writing, of disobedient, joyful female characters, far from the archetype of the eternal victim, and also of male characters who reject the role of hero and are based on listening, presence and empathy. Creating fictional characters, we will rewrite sequences of scripts and stories from the viewpoint of play and pleasure.

Participants: Irene Moray, Drac Màgic
