My Body is a Beach

An exploration of the self-portrait as a landscape, with Heidi Ramírez

Courses and workshops

Varda said of her film Les plages d’Agnès (2008): “If we opened up people, we would see landscapes. If they opened me up, they would find beaches.” Artist Heidi Ramírez proposes a workshop to play with self-representation in relation to landscape.

Taking a journey around moments in the history of photography, we will create a space for reflection on issues related to the gaze, with particular attention to practices that focus on the landscape. In this workshop, Heidi Ramírez proposes to piece together the self-portrait in relation to the territory, bringing the body into dialogue with the contexts and the material realities in which it is located (natural elements, other bodies, mirrors...). What are personal landscapes? How can we become a landscape? Breaking down the landscape, expanding it, projecting it as a space of encounter.

Inspired by the evolution of the technical filming devices present in Varda’s work, we’ll transform the space into a photographic studio to experiment with the self-portrait. We will play with performativity, staging and the accumulation of images to create a great mural all together.

Participants: Heidi Ramírez, Drac Màgic
