5W magazine presents the ninth volume of its “Voces” (Voices) collection with a conversation between the photojournalist Santi Palacios and the artist Laia Abril, moderated by Marta Gili.
Photojournalism and art: two ways of looking at the world, two ways of talking about reality. Palacios and Abril agree that images, like words, need to be interpreted. In this discussion, they will offer their thoughts on the language they use to decipher what they see and will explore the need to shift the gaze of victims to structures of power. Abril will elaborate on her series Una historia de la misoginia (A History of Misogyny) when reflecting on the violation of women’s rights around the world, and Palacios will discuss the dilemmas of his work on borders, migration, and conflict.
This issue, Number 9, of “Voces”, published by 5W magazine, which will be presented at this event, is part of a collection that covers the world, connecting a variety of viewpoints through writing, photography, thought, geography, and journalism.
Moderators: Marta Gili
Participants: Laia Abril, Santi Palacios
