Instruments of the Soul
Matter and spirit in the Middle Ages and at present
Debate
Free with pre-booking
The Mediaeval Art Museum (MEV) and the CCCB are jointly organising an interdisciplinary seminar to reflect on the connection between material objects and religious or spiritual practices.
How are religious practices structured through objects? Is it possible to imagine spirituality without a material dimension? Experts from disciplines including philosophy, anthropology, sociology, history of art, religious phenomenology, museology, cultural mediation, and poetry will analyse the ways in which the tangible world interacts with the sacred. With this exchange we aim to open a discussion that will lead to better understanding of our past and allow exploration of new perspectives on the connections between body and spirit in the present-day world.
The Mediaeval Art Museum is offering this seminar in its programme of preparatory work for an exhibition on matter and spirit in the Middle Ages and today’s world.
