How Is Rain Made?
Workshop on Shamanism and Science with Aníbal G. Arregui
Courses and workshops
With anthropologist Aníbal G. Arregui as our guide, we’ll explore the connection between trees and rain from two seemingly opposing perspectives: Amazonian shamanism and atmospheric physics.
This workshop opens a space for dialogue between the ancestral knowledge of shamans, who have for centuries understood and valued the connection between forests and climate, and more recent discoveries of Western science. We’ll reflect on how these two forms of knowledge can complement each other to address climate challenges.
During the activity, participants will be invited to explore various traditions and views of the role of forests in climate regulation. We’ll be asking to what extent modern science can capture the complexity of shamanic knowledge and trying to reimagine how the dialogue between these two forms of knowledge can discover the essence of today’s ecological crisis.
