Free with pre-booking
In a free workshop open to the public, the artist Samira Benini Allaouat will present “Geo-Llum”, an artistic installation that also works as public and ecological lighting. Samira is creating “Geo-Llum” in an urban garden of Barcelona, in which she investigates how to use microorganisms to design more sustainable cities. This is one of the winning projects of the S+T+ARTS Repairing the Present artist residencies.
"Geo-Llum" is the winning project of one of the S+T+ARTS Repairing the present residencies, convened by the CCCB, Sónar and the UPC, which asked for solutions to the challenge "How can we integrate microorganisms to design cities more sustainable?" The artist Samira Benini Allaouat proposes an imaginative and sustainable solution to the role of public lighting in urban spaces.
Starting from the idea that nature can be a great ally in artificial environments such as cities, Benini Allaouat proposes an installation made with recycled materials that works thanks to the help of geobacteria, bacteria that produce electricity while decontaminating the soil.
The final work of the residency consists of this hybrid work, a light sculpture that, apart from being an artistic and performative installation in the street, opens up different lines of interest and scientific research: rainwater harvesting, bioremediation or use of biological agents in contaminated environments or the public production of light and energy with natural systems.
"Geo-Llum" will be able to take place in Barcelona thanks to the support of the Akasha Hub, in collaboration with the Green City Lab, which act as mediators and organizers of strategic planning.
