Economic model and global migrations

ICREA research professors, Pau Baizán (UPF) and Giorgos Kallis (ICTA-UAB), will discuss the limits of the current economic model and the risk that the lack of climate-related measures will trigger a migratory crisis.
Over the coming years, there will be societies who will be particularly vulnerable to the effects of global warming and have to face migrations, and even wars, caused by a lack of access to natural resources. Moreover, it is the most disadvantaged social classes who will suffer the worst consequences of these new inequalities.
Given this situation, in recent years, proposals for political, environmental and socio-economic alternatives have emerged that are in direct contrast with the principles of the system that has brought us to this stage. However, their implementation would involve making radical changes to our daily lives and answering difficult questions, such as what the population ceiling of the planet is, or what we will be willing to live without in order to have a better collective future.
