Pau Baizán

Pau Baizán is ICREA research professor at the Department of Political and Social Sciences at Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), where he is a member of the socio-demographic research group and lectures in social demographics. He obtained a PhD in demographics from the University of Louvain with a thesis on migrations and family dynamics and has continued his academic career at institutions including Cambridge and Queensland universities. He has studied the causes of migrations between sub-Saharan Africa and Europe – particularly between Senegal and Spain – and their impact on the behaviour and formation of families, as well the links between migrations and climate change. He has also carried out research into gender inequalities and the links between gender politics and fertility.
