A substantial change is set to take place on 20 May, when some international measures will be defined by quantum foundations.

Metrology is the scientific study of measurement. Considering that measurement is required in many scientific, technical, preventive (health, safety, environment) and everyday activities, this definition highlights the importance of the discipline. A substantial change is set to take place on 20 May, when some international measures will be defined by quantum foundations.

The Catalan Metrology Section of the IEC is organising the 2nd World Metrology Day with a programme devoted to explaining this fundamental change and its implications for the logistics, infrastructure and functioning of our society.

Session 1. Change in definitions of the international system (SI). Explanation of the reason for changing the definition of the system units.
With Maite Pueyo

Session 2. Adapting metrology to quantum foundations. Introductory session to quantum theory in the field of metrology
With Eugeni Vilalta

Activity: Aluminium Cube. A practical case to calculate various international constants
