Xavier Prats-Monné
Expert in European affairs and public policy in education and health
Xavier Prats-Monné is an expert in European affairs and, as a former high-ranking official of the European Commission, was director-general of the directorates for Health and Food Safety and for Education and Culture. He graduated in Social Anthropology from the Complutense University of Madrid, after which he specialised in Policies for Economic Development at the Centre International des Hautes Études Agronomiques Méditerranéennes in Montpellier, and in European Studies at the College of Europe in Bruges. He is currently working with several European foundations and institutions as an advisor in the areas of education and health, among them the King Baudouin Foundation, the Jacques Delors Institute in Paris, the Sant Pau Hospital in Barcelona, and the international network Teach For All. In 2016 he was awarded the Civil Order of Alfonso X, the Wise for outstanding work in the domains of education and culture and, in 2019, he received an honorary doctorate from the Rovira i Virgili University of Tarragona in recognition of his contribution to constructing community and citizenship in Europe.
