Tarta Relena

A project that explores, a cappella, the sounds of different styles of vocal music.

The duo Tarta Relena, founded in 2016 by Marta Torrella and Helena Ros, embraces a repertoire that ranges from music of oral traditions through to original songs which, in one way or another, are linked with the geographical area of the Mediterranean. They seek complexity in simplicity, and maximum expression with a minimum of elements. This vast experimentation with the possibilities of the voice plays with an electronic contrast with which they give new meanings to melodies, texts, and rhythms.

Tarta Relena has released three discs: Ora Pro Nobis (The Indian Runners, 2019), Intercede Pro Nobis (The Indian Runners, 2020) and Fiat Lux (The Indian Runners and la Castanya, 2021), and its music has been presented around the country and Europe, as well as in tours in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. In the fall of 2024, they will release És pregunta, their new album, while also working on the sound installation Sirens and Robots, an art and science project with oceanographer Joan Llort that will be presented at the 2024 Biennale of Thought.
