Roy Ascott
Artist and scientist who works with cybernetics and telematics
A pioneer of the telematic art, he is a professor of technoetics at the University of Plymouth and visiting professor of design and art media at the University of California. He has advised the UNESCO, numerous universities worldwide and various festivals, as well as organising the international Consciousness Reframed conferences every year.
He has exhibited his work on the relationship between art, technology and conscience at the Venice Biennale and the Biennale do Mercosul, the Milan Triennale and Electra Paris. He is also serves on the editorial boards of the publications Technoetic Arts and Leonardo.
As a researcher he has written over 130 articles, translated into several languages, and a total of six books, prominently including Reframing Consciousness (1999), Technoetic Arts (2002) and Telematic Embrace: Visionary Theories of Art Technology and Consciousness (2003).
He has recently published Engineered Nature: art and consciousness in the post-biological era (2006).
