Rebecca Tolosa Gilroy

Filmmaker

Thanks to a fellowship grant, Rebecca Tolosa studied Political Anthropology at Roma Tre University, specialising in the aesthetic representations of pain and miser, as well as the moral economies associated with them. She later studied experimental film and screenwriting.

She wrote the play Tragantona which premiered at El Umbral de Primavera, and the play Particulares y Patios, which has been performed at theatres in Madrid, Bilbao and Malaga. In 2022 she won the Santander Emplea Cultura award for cultural management and programming projects in the city of Barcelona. That same year she was recognised with a special mention by La Bonne’s Young Creators Award and the Visual Women Award for the documentary project Una Imagen (Im)posible, about hacking personal archives in situations of psychological suffering.

Co-writer of the short films Irremplazable (2024, Best Experimental Film Award at the Seville Film Festival), and Agápe (currently in production). Screenwriter of the series La Fatiga de Ser Mabel currently in development.

She's an archivist at the Ca La Dona Documentation Centre.
