Paco Abril
Researcher and activist, expert in dissident models of masculinities
Paco Abril holds a PhD in Information and Knowledge Society from the Open University of Catalonia and a degree in Sociology from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He currently teaches at the Faculty of Education of the University of Girona and in the department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Open University of Catalonia. As a researcher, he has focused on issues such as fatherhoods, co-responsibility and co-education, among others. He is a member of the research group «Medusa: Genders in Transition: Masculinities, Affects, Bodies, and Technoscience» where he works on issues such as men’s transition towards dissident and alternative models of masculinity; and he participates in the European project «Men in Care», which aims to foster caring masculinities. In addition to his involvement with multiple national and international research projects, as an activist he also develops workshops on masculinities with young people and groups of men as a member of the association Homes Igualitaris-AHIGE Catalunya.
