Olinda Silvano
Artist
Olinda Silvano is a Peruvian artist from the Shipibo community, a kené master and healer. When she was a child, she learnt the art of kené from her grandmother, which she continued to explore when she moved to Lima, particularly with the women’s group known as the Mother Artisans of Cantagallo. She moved to Lima to look for better living conditions but came up against racism and the structural discrimination that exists in Peru: phenomena that she re-educates people about through her art. In 2017 she was named president of the AYLLU Association, an organisation of Andean and Amazonian women who take care of their traditional knowledge and rights. She has exhibited her works at the National University of San Marcos (Lima), the Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver (Canada) and ARCO Madrid (2019). She is part of the Shipibo-Konibo Women Mural Artists Collective in Cantagallo.
