Misha Glenny

A British journalist and writer, he was, for many years, correspondent of the BBC and The Guardian in Central and East Europe, where he witnessed the collapse of communism and the Balkans Wars. He has also engaged in an in-depth inquiry into world-wide criminal networks. In 2003, he received a Sony Gold Award for his work as a journalist. He has also been a political adviser to the United States Government and to those of several European countries and, for three years, was director of an NGO working on the reconstruction of Serbia, Macedonia and Kosovo. He has written several books on Central and Eastern Europe and also McMafia: A Journey Through the Global Criminal Underworld (The Bodley Head/Alfred A. Knopf, 2008 - published in Spanish as McMafia: El crimen sin fronteras by Destino in 2008), which deals with organised transnational crime and globalisation.
