Marta Soler

PhD from Harvard University and director of CREA (Centre for Research on Theories and Practices for Overcoming Inequalities) at the University of Barcelona (UB)

Marta Soler is associate lecturer in Sociology at the University of Barcelona, where she heads the Gender, Identity and Society research group. She has carried out several studies concerned with how to improve reading performance in children and also how to change cultural practices of adults in low-income communities. She has given many lectures on these subjects in international forums. Notable among her publications is the book she co-authored with John Searle: Lenguaje y Ciencias Sociales (Language and Social Sciences – El Roure, 2004). She is a consultant to the Commission of Experts of the European Socio-Economic Sciences and Humanities Research Projects under the Seventh Framework Programme and also a member of the European Union Research Ethics Review Panel. Furthermore, she plays an active role in the research work of several sociology associations, including the American Sociological Association(ASA) and the European Sociological Association (ESA).
