Markus Schaden

Markus Schaden is the founder of the publishing house and legendary photobook store Schaden.com in Cologne in 1995. He published more than 100 books, took part in countless international festivals and fairs and organized more than 250 exhibitions, events and book signings. He regularly teaches workshops and masterclasses and is a lecturer at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne and Fachhochschule Dortmund. He serves on the juries of various international photobook awards. He was the guest editor of the second edition of the PhotoBook Review by Aperture as well as the Vice President of the German Photographic Society (DGPh). Since 2014 he is the founder and director of The PhotoBookMuseum, a non-profit organization establishing photobook culture and visual literature. It is the world’s first museum focused on the curatorial display of photobooks.
