Regarded as one of the most brilliant thinkers in the new generation of philosophers, Markus Gabriel holds the Chair for Epistemology, Modern and Contemporary Philosophy at the University of Bonn and is also Director of the International Centre for Philosophy in Germany. He is the founder of new realism, a philosophical trend that has had a major impact on European thought in recent years, especially among the younger generations. He has written numerous books, including the internationally acclaimed Why the World Does Not Exist (published in Spanish as Por qué el mundo no existe by Pasado y Presente, 2015) and The Meaning of Thought (in Spanish, El sentido del pensamiento, Pasado y Presente, 2019) where he warns of the need for new philosophical reflection in order to confront the global crisis of today’s world. His latest book, Ética para tiempos oscuros (Moral Progress in Dark Times, Pasado y Presente, 2021), ponders a moral transformation of the world in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis.
