Markus Gabriel and Miquel Seguró in Conversation
A New Global Ethics
Debate
In this session the philosopher Markus Gabriel, who has just published the book Ética para tiempos oscuros (Moral Progress in Dark Times, Pasado y Presente, 2021), will speak with Miquel Seguró about the role played by philosophy in the situation of global crisis in which we are immersed.
For the philosopher Markus Gabriel, the accumulation of crises that occurred throughout 2020 has drawn attention to some of the risks faced by the political and social system at the global level, among them the crisis of liberal democracies, the fragility of health and life protecting systems, and increasing digitalisation of society. With this background Gabriel believes that the coronavirus crisis has placed us before a mirror that has not only shown who we are collectively and what is lacking in our way of life, but it has also allowed us to open our eyes to the need for an ethical transformation of our world.
In this session Markus Gabriel will speak with the philosopher Miquel Seguró about the urgent need for a new model of cooperation between science, politics, and economy which, working with civil society, would enable us to overcome the present situation and face the challenges of the twenty-first century.
This event is jointly organised with the Festival VilaPensa and the publisher Editorial Pasado y Presente.
Participants: Markus Gabriel, Miquel Seguró
