Maria Garganté Llanes

Professor and art historian

She holds a PhD in Geography and History from the University of Barcelona and is a professor at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and at the Antoni Gaudí Faculty of the Ateneu Universitari de Sant Pacià. Her areas of research focus on the study of Catalan art and architecture of the Baroque period, popular religiosity in modern times, cultural heritage in a broad sense and gender studies. With more than a hundred publications, she has won several awards such as the Noguera Foundation (2004) for Arquitectura religiosa del segle XVIII a la Segarra i l'Urgell: condicionants, artífex i pràctica constructiva or the Valeri Serra i Boldú Award (2010) for Festa, arquitectura i devoció a la Catalunya del barroc. He has also taught at other Catalan and foreign universities and is a member of the Renaissance and Baroque Art Research Group of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and the University of Girona. He is currently writing an informative book on Catalan Baroque entitled Paisatge barroc: art i arquitectura a la Catalunya dels segles XVII i XVIII. He is a member of the Artistic Advisory Commission of the Basilica of the Sagrada Familia and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Fundació Espurnes Barroques.
