Maria Buhigas San José

Maria Buhigas is an architect and urban who has run her own firm since 2014, specialised in urban strategy and urban planning. She holds a degree in Architecture from the ETSAB (UPC) and a Master of Science in Urban Planning from Columbia University (New York). She is a regular collaborator with UN-Habitat on projects in Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Paraguay, Ecuador and Cuba. She is also an associate professor for the Department of Geography at the UAB and a member of the Board of Trustees of Fundació Catalunya Europa - Llegat Pasqual Maragall. Previously, she served as part of the team at Barcelona Regional (1999-2013), where she led the Urban Strategy department (2006-13). She has been a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the European agency ESPON (2017-19) and a councillor for the Barcelona City Council (2019-20).
