Lluís Calvo

Lluís Calvo is a prolific writer and literary critic, whose works are considered essential in the domains of contemporary Catalan essays and poetry. Notable among his recent essays are the publications Els Llegats (The Legacies, Arcàdia, 2021), El dilema de l’amor (The Love Dilemma, Angle Editorial, 2023), and his plea for democracy, El segrest de la política (The Kidnapping of Politics, Quaderns Anagrama, 2024). His poetry has two main themes, namely his reflections on language and nature. His most recent poetry collections are Centaures i rossinyols (Centaurs and Nightingales, Edicions del Buc, 2023), and Cor pirinenc. El poema de Fontalba i Gotanegra (Pyrenees Heart: The Poem of Fontalba and Gotanegra, Lleonard Muntaner, 2022), which the culture section of El País, “Quadern” highlighted as being among the fifty best works in Catalan in the last five decades. Among the awards he has received are the “Cadaqués a Quima Jaume” Prize in recognition of his literary career, the Barcelona Jocs Florals literary competition award, and the Serra d’or Critics’ Prize.
