Professor of Sociology at Goldsmiths College in London. His areas of expertise include race, multiculturalism, popular culture and identity. He has also taught at the Birkbeck College and at the University of Birmingham in the Cultural Studies department. He is a regular contributor to such publications as The Guardian, Times Higher Educational Supplement, New Humanist, and the online magazines openDemocracy.net and Eurozine. He is author of the books Theories of race and racism (Routledge, 2009), The Art of listening (Berg, 2007), «Racisme i l’imperi de la por», in Apartheid,: el mirall Sud-africà (CCCB, 2006), and Out of whiteness: Color, Politics and Culture (University of Chicago Press, 2002).
