Las Huecas

Las Huecas (Barcelona) is a theatre collective made up of four actresses and a technician: Júlia Barbany, Esmeralda Colette, Núria Corominas, Andrea Pellejero and Sofía Ana Martori. It was created in 2016 with the idea of producing creations on the basis of collective practice. As a group, they have gone through several identities: ethnographic researchers, punk band and fanzine artists. They have performed in public spaces, liberated sites, theatres, alternative concert halls and Instagram streams.

The dialogue between frameworks of representation and performative decisions taken is very important to them. In this sense, they work with the biographical body that is necessarily tied to the political body and, therefore, to their status as privileged subjects on the platform of the stage. They situate themselves by ideology in recognition of their own material conditions, opting for an aesthetic of distancing, of estrangement from the real based on an unstable being-on-stage, exposed to the precariousness of the body and its circumstances, exposed to the open play of theatrical codes, in what we could call a poeticization of failure or a performance of permanent withdrawal.

Their works include Projecte ‘92 (2018), a show about childhood during the Olympic occasion of the city of Barcelona; Cerimònia d’inauguració (2019), a three-hour event streamed live on Instagram that recreated the symbolic act of carrying the Olympic torch, and Aquelles que no han de morir (2021), a project about the idea, management, location and economy of death in a hedonistic society obsessed with youth.
