Julieta Laso
Singer, actress, and one of the best-known contemporary tango artists.
Julieta Laso (Buenos Aires, 1982) is an Argentine singer and actress who is trained in theatre. In 2010 she launched her first solo disc, Tango Rante, in which she performs classics of tango and milonga, backed by a guitar trio. From 2013 to 2018 she was the singer of the Orquesta Fernández Fierro, an essential reference in new Argentine tango. Her second solo disc, Martingala (2018), was nominated for the Gardel Awards as Best Female Tango Singer, while her third album, La Caldera (2021) has also been highly praised. The same year, she presented her fourth solo album, Cabeza Negra, a conceptual project which, because of the complexity of performance, its repertoire, and its instrumentation, has opened up a new musical genre mixing tango and folk. Also in 2021, she made her film debut as the star of Terminal Norte, the most recent documentary of the acclaimed filmmaker Lucrecia Martel.
