Jordi Sunyer

Jordi Sunyer Deu is head of the ISGlobal Child Health programme and chair professor of Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. In 2006 he co-founded the CREAL, today ISGlobal. He graduated in Medicine from the Universitat de Barcelona (1980) and then specialised in family and community medicine (1984), having earned his PhD at the same university (1989). He has been visiting professor at the Johns Hopkins University (1994-95 and 2003-2009). His research has focused on the effects of the environment on health, first on the asthma epidemics in Barcelona and the causes of asthma, and subsequently on the effects of contamination by persistent chemical compounds on brain development and of air pollution on the respiratory system and the brain. He is the director of the INMA newborn cohort.
