João Paulo Lima Barreto

João Paulo Lima Barreto comes from the yepá-mahsá (Tukano) people. He holds a degree in Philosophy and a MA and PhD in Social Anthropology from the Federal University of Amazonas, where he also lectures. He founded the Bahserikowi — Centre for Indigenous Medicine — and set up Biatüwi, the first restaurant serving indigenous food. He is a researcher at the Study Hub for the Indigenous Amazon (NEAI), a research associate at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (FIOCRUZ) in Manaus, a member of the Science Panel for the Amazon (SPA) and the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. He is also a member of the Scientific Committee of SoU_Ciência, the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organisation (OTCA) and a coordinator at the Fórum Povos da Rede Unida. He also works as a consultant.
