Jeff Hearn

Researcher, activist, university professor and expert in power structures, masculinities and gender.

He is professor emeritus and director of research for the GODESS Institute at Hanken School of Economics in Finland and was awarded an honorary doctorate in Social Sciences from Lund University in Sweden. He is also a professor of Sociology at Huddersfield University in the United Kingdom and a professor of Gender Studies at Örebro University in Sweden. Throughout his career he has combined participation in activism with the development of public policies and research in various fields such as gender, sexuality, information and communication technologies, and violence, among others. He is co-editor of the Routledge book series Advances in Feminist Studies and Intersectionality, a project dedicated to encouraging and disseminating new feminist perspectives that focus on the intersectionality between different power structures, the corporeality of oppressions, and transdisciplinarity. He is also the author of numerous scientific publications and essays on masculinities, gender and citizenship, including The Gender of Oppression: Men, Masculinity, and the Critique of Marxism (Wheatsheaf Books, 1987), Men in the Public Eye (Canadian Journal of Sociology, 1992) and The Violences of Men (Contemporary Sociology, 1998). He is currently working on research projects focused on digital violence and studies on gender and masculinities in transnational organisations.
