Gemma Ferreón

Anthropologist, co-founder of Catàrsia

Gemma Ferreón Rivera, with studies in Social and Cultural Anthropology and Photography, is presently working in the social and educational area of the Tot Raval Foundation, which specialises in community action. Born in the Philippines, she is co-founder of the association for people of Asian origin, Catàrsia, an artistic and political collective that aims to transform society from an antiracist, decolonial, and feminist standpoint. One of its notable projects is Furiasia, the first arts festival at the national level for members of Asian diasporas, in which Catàrsia works with the CCCB. She is also co-founder of Gabriela Spain, an activist and political group in an international alliance that defends the rights of Philippine women around the world.
