Éric Marty

Writer and professor

Éric Marty (Paris, 1955) is a writer, essayist and professor specialized in contemporary literature and the history of ideas. He is a professor of contemporary French literature at the University of Paris Diderot-Paris and, since 2013, a senior member of the Institut Universitaire de France.

He is the editor of the complete works of Roland Barthes. His most important essays, translated from French into Spanish, are Roland Barthes, el oficio de escribir (Manantial, 2007) and ¿Por qué el siglo XX tomó a Sade en serio? (Siglo XXI, 2014). He has also written on René Char, Jean Genet and Louis Althusser. Most recently he has published the essay Le Sexe des Modernes: Pensée du Neutre et théorie du genre (SEUIL, 2021), translated into Spanish as El sexo de los modernos. Pensamiento de lo Neutro y teoría del género (Manantial, 2022).
