Elena Neira

Professor and researcher

She specializes in new models of audiovisual distribution. With a degree in Law and Audiovisual Communication, she teaches communication studies at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) and is a member of the GAME group at the same university. She also teaches audiovisual distribution at the International University of Catalonia (UIC) and is a doctoral candidate. Her main research interests are the impact of streaming platforms on the traditional television industry and on the viewer. Elena Neira is a regular contributor to Movistar+ special programs at the Emmy, Golden Globes and Oscar galas. She has also given several talks and conferences, including a TED Talk about Netflix and has been chosen as one of the 50 most influential women in the Spanish audiovisual business according to Forbes magazine. Among her books we emphasize El espectador social (Editorial UOC, 2013) and La otra pantalla (Editorial UOC, 2015). Her latest book is Streaming Wars: la nueva televisión (Libros Cúpula, 2020), an essay on how we watch television today.
