Denise Desautels
Poet
She is considered one of the great voices of contemporary Quebecois poetry. With a lively, dynamic and groundbreaking poetry, Desautels has published more than forty titles, including poems, short stories and artists' books, which have led her to numerous awards, including the Governor General of Canada's Prize for Poetry (1993). For all her work she received the Athanase-David Prize (2009) —the highest distinction in literature awarded by the Quebec government— and the Jean Arp European Prize for Francophone Literature (2010). So far, in Catalan, she has published the poetry collections Tomba de Lou (Cafè Central and Eumo, 2011), Sense tu, mai no hauria mirat tan amunt (Cafè Central and Llibres del segle, 2014) and D'on sorgeix de vegades un braç d'horitzó (La Breu, 2022), and the novel Una felicitat imposada (La Breu, 2017), all translated by Antoni Clapés. Negras palabras (Paso de la Barca, 2014) is her poetry anthology published in Spanish. Denise Desautels is a member of the Acadamie des Lettres du Québec and the Ordre du Canada.
