Daniele Porretta

Architect

Daniele Porretta is an architect and lecturer in History of Design at ELISAVA Barcelona. He is a Doctor of Theory and History of Architecture with her thesis on the evolution of the image of the city of the future in the first half of the twentieth century, from technological utopias to the dystopias of social control. He was a member of the ETSAB Barcelona Model Critical Archive research group and is a collaborator on the Architecture and Film course at the ETSAB. He has directed numerous cycles of film and lectures on architecture and the city at institutions such as the Mies van der Rohe Foundation, Caixaforum and the Italian Institute of Culture in Barcelona. A regular contributor at the Barcelona Institute of the Humanities, he has directed the courses The City and the Imaginary of Destruction (2011), Home(s). Looking at the Idea of Dwelling (2015), The City of the Future: Utopias and Dystopias (2016), Possible Futures. Utopias and Dystopias for the 21st Century (2017) and Mars: the Other Earth (2019). He is the author of L’altra TerraL’utopia di Marte dall’età victoriana alla New Space economy (Luiss University Press, 2020), centring on the history of the utopia of planet Mars.
