Chiara Beccalossi

A Senior Lecturer at the University of Lincoln in the UK, Chiara Beccalossi is a historian of sexuality and medicine. She works on how medical sciences have treated sexual behaviour in modern and contemporary history. Among Chiara’s publications, her first book, Female Sexual Inversion: Same-Sex Desires in Italian and British Sexology, c. 1870–1920 (Palgrave, 2012), explores how medical sciences treated female same-sex desires. She has held a number of international visiting fellowships including at Dartmouth College in the US, the University of Sydney in Australia and a visiting professorship at the University of Toulouse Jean Jaurès in France. In 2015 Chiara won a five year Wellcome Trust University Award to research how hormone treatments developed in Southern Europe and Latin America in the twentieth century.
