A.M. Homes
Writer
A.M. Homes is one of the most established voices in contemporary North American narrative. Known for her transgressive, dark and humorous explorations of American culture and society, in her stories Homes often paints a satirical portrait of the suburban upper class, its pretensions and double standards, and dysfunctional family relationships. This is reflected in novels such as The Unfolding (Viking 2022), May We Be Forgiven (Viking Penguin, 2012), and This Book Will Save Your Life (Penguin, 2007), as well as in short story collections like Days of Awe (Viking, 2018) and Things You Should Know (Harper Perennial, 2003). Her prolific career includes novels, short story collections and autobiographical non-fiction works, such as The Mistress's Daughter, in which she recounts her own experience as an adopted person. Homes’s work has been translated into twenty-two languages and has received numerous awards, such as the prestigious Women’s Prize for Fiction in 2013 for her novel May We Be Forgiven. She has received a Guggenheim Fellowship and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship.
