Albert Pijuan
Novelist, playwright and translator.
In the field of narrative, he has published the novels Tsunami (Angle, 2020) – awarded the 2020 Ciutat de Tarragona Award, the Finestres Award, and the 2021 National Literary Critics’ Award – and El franctirador [The Sniper] (Angle, 2014). Other works by Pijuan, like the unclassifiable Ramon Llull. Ara i aquí [Ramon Llull: Here and Now] (Angle, 2016) or the pseudo-essay “Per què no repensem el canibalisme?” [Why Don’t We Rethink Cannibalism?] (Medusa, 2023), exemplify his pointed and critical perspective and his desire for formal experimentation. He has published and produced some 15 plays and theatrical texts, some of which have been seen internationally. Pijuan has also written short fiction, with titles such as Seguiràs el ritme del fantasma jamaicà [You’ll Follow the Rhythm of the Jamaican Ghost] (Angle, 2017) or La vastitud [Vastness] (LaBreu, 2020, with Adrià Pujol and Lucia Pietrelli), and he has participated in various anthologies, including Visions del purgatori [Visions of Purgatory] (Males herbes, 2018) and Woman’ secret i altres narracions [Woman’ Secret and Other Stories] (Pagès, 2011). He has translated authors like Evelyn Waugh, Dalton Trumbo, H. G. Wells and Lara Williams, and he teaches writing at schools such as Laboratori de Lletres.
