Al Shaw

Al Shaw is a hacker who develops interactive visualisations that integrate the visualisation and processing of data in journalistic investigation. He is currently working for the medium specialising in journalistic investigation ProPublica. Together with a multi-disciplinary team of journalists and programmers, they publish the Nerd Blog, about the latest trends in data journalism. Previously he was a designer for Talking Points Memo and creator of the PollTracker app by TPM. His latest major project, Losing Ground, is an innovative way of using satellite images analysis to document the loss of ground in southeastern Lousiana. The application was awarded a gold medal by the Society for News Design, in the category of best website design.
