The futures of cinema

Is cinema dying or simply changing? Are the world's film archives endangered and therefore also our collective audiovisual memory? These are just some of the many questions posed by Cinema Futures, a documentary about the present and future of cinema in the digital era.
The digital revolution came late to the world of cinema and was initially perceived as a mere technological advance but today, with the progressive disappearance of photochemical film and the wide range of digital formats, we're witnessing great mutations in how film is produced and exhibited in general and no-one can predict precisely what the future holds.
This documentary, with the participation of such important figures as David Bordwell, Tom Gunning, Jacques Rancière, Paolo Cherchi Usai, Nicole Brenez, Martin Scorsese, Christopher Nolan, Tacita Dean and Apichatpong Weerasethakul, outlines the future scenarios, fears and possible utopias that accompany the transition from an era of 120 years of analogue cinema history to the intangible era of digital data.
