The energy challenge, a social and economic challenge

Social and economic behaviour has direct effects in terms of energy consumption. Can we keep consuming without limits? Are sustainability and economic growth compatible concepts? Would access to energy for huge parts of the population which do not presently enjoy its benefits be viable, or must we start talking about degrowth?
