BAMAKO 7th African Photography Meeting. In the city and beyond
Stories of Africa through self-portraits
A conversation with Samuel Fosso
Debate
Samuel Fosso (Kumba, Cameroon, 1962) is one of several important contemporary artists whose work is leading photography to be considered one of the major visual arts. Through and beyond his extraordinary artistic quality, his self-portraits offer us a vision totally lacking in egotism, that is sometimes ironic, often searing and always profound, of a complex and diverse Africa that is in a permanent process of transformation, inseparable from global dynamics.
Samuel Fosso will talk to Simon Njami, curator of the Recontres Africanes de la Photographie, and Pep Subirós, curator of the exhibition Bamako. 7th African Photography Meetings, to mark the opening of the exhibition.
