Sound Geographies

A Journey round Urban Amazonia

Music

Architect and researcher Natalia Figueredo, from Belém do Pará, city at the mouth of the river Amazon, invites us on a visual sound journey through urban Amazon music.

Music is a universal language. It is often through samples that peoples and stories come together and dialogue. Based on a selection of rhythms, melodies and sounds, we’ll explore myths, landscapes and stories that connect music with the geography of the rainforest and Amazonian cities. This soundscape will unfold in a fusion of music and images that reveal the richness and diversity of these territories.

During the session, not only will we find the familiar imaginaries of the Amazon, we’ll also discover the instruments, rhythms and cultures that are reflected in the music of these regions. This immersive experience will take us from the depths of the rainforest to the vibrant aparelhagens, a popular phenomenon in Amazonian urban centres. This visual sound journey takes us from familiar landscapes to an ancestral future, exploring music as an element that reveals its own geography.

Participants: Natalia Figueredo, Naré , Guilherme Takshy
