Sarah Whiting
Thinking and teaching architecture
Debate
Sarah Whiting, one of the most influential thinkers in the domain of contemporary architecture, will speak about how to make architecture a committed practice that can have an influence in the shaping of public life today.
Dean and Josep Lluís Sert Professor of Architecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, Sarah Whiting has long reflected on the role of architecture in contemporary society. As head of one of the world’s prestigious academic institutions, from which she contributes to shaping the global debate, Sarah Whiting will speak about her commitment to the teaching of architecture and the values she promotes, among them social sensitivity and integration of theory and practice in design.
Sarah Whiting is also a leading expert on some of the great Catalan architects and urban planners, such as Ignasi de Solà-Morales, whose essays she has translated into English. From her knowledge of the history of architecture, Whiting analyzes the lessons that can be drawn from great figures in architectural and urban thought and their relevance for the twenty-first century.
In this session, which will be moderated by Lluís Ortega, we shall have the opportunity to discuss architectural theory and practice today with one of the leaders in the field.
