We Too Are Land. Knowledge for Inhabiting the Place
Debate
Writers Roser Vernet and Júlia Viejobueno reflect on what it means to belong to a territory, and how ancestral knowledge makes for a cooperative form of habitation.
Rooted in the reality and the specific context of the Priorat region, the two writers discuss how our relationship with the land shapes both the way we live and our individual and collective identity. They talk about the need to disentangle and adapt traditional knowledge to deal with a changing world conditioned by social, cultural and climatic adversities that affect our immediate environment as well as the planet as a whole.
This conversation becomes an invitation to value ways of life that focus on respect for and care of the land, moving away from extractivist logics and excessive competition. With the determination to continue being a living, active part of the land that defines them, Vernet and Viejobueno reflect on what it means to have deep-rooted, balanced ties with the territory and to return to our essence as the land that we too are.
