Online animation workshop "povera" with Elena Duque

Audiovisuals + Courses and workshops

Home animation and DIY workshop taught in streaming by Elena Duque, filmmaker and specialist in experimental animation, who proposes simple techniques based on games with everyday objects.

Beyond cartoons and the naturalistic imitation of reality, animation is a vehicle for experimentation and play, and a window to see the everyday through a new prism. Through colors, textures, materials of all kinds and various perceptual tricks, animation is magic within everyone's reach.

In this "povera" animation workshop (in homage to the Italian artistic trend that emerged at the end of the 60s) the work of animation is considered from the "poverty" of its materials (in economic terms, but not aesthetic) using methods available to anyone and taking advantage of what we all have at hand in our homes.

The first session will cover the basic principles of animation, followed by a brief introduction to experimental animation, illustrated with films by artists such as Paul Bush, Jodie Mack, Jonathan Hodgson and Jan Svankmajer, among others. Finally, the participants will learn to use the free Stop Motion Studio application, which will be used in the workshop to create the animations.

In the following sessions, different work techniques will be put into practice frame by frame, through exercises based on affinity, shock, collage or pixilation (animation with living beings).

With all the materials generated in the workshop, the teacher will assemble a collective piece that will be presented on the CCCB website.

This workshop is aimed at anyone interested in animation. It is not necessary to know how to draw or have any previous experience.

Requirements: smartphone and internet connection.

Participants: Elena Duque
