México in war

Debate

Free

In recent years, violence in Mexico has reached such levels that the situation could be described as civil war, although the mass media and international institutions are reluctant to speak in these terms. In order to explain what the real situation is and to support the civilian population of Mexico, the CCCB and the “Nuestra Aparente Rendición” (Our Apparent Surrender) invite the public to an international reading in solidarity with Ciudad Juárez. The event, organised by the cultural group Escritores por Ciudad Juárez (Authors for Ciudad Juárez), is to be held in 130 towns in 24 countries and four continents. The documentary, “Silencio forzado” (Enforced Silence), by the Article 19 Group, which chronicles the killings of and violence against journalists in Mexico, will also be screened and there will be an exhibition of handkerchiefs embroidered in different parts of the world in solidarity with the victims of war.
