Maria Tumarkin and Cristina Garcia Molina

Exploring memory

Debate

Maria Tumarkin, writer and cultural historian, reflects with writer and professor Cristina Garcia Molina on how to approach from the present the narratives of the past through memory, trauma and loss, on the occasion of the publication of the essay Axiomatic (published in Spanish by minúscula, 2025).

Suicide, war, language, generational pain and friendship are some of the issues Tumarkin explores through thought, narrative and dialogue. Through the questioning of five axioms, the author proposes to rethink the processes of construction of individual and collective memory and the paths through which we elaborate the past. In doing so, she reveals the hidden tensions of this process and contributes to widening the boundaries of reflection on these issues.

In this session, Tumarkin approaches this debate accompanied by Cristina Garcia Molina, a writer and professor who in her latest publication, Els irredempts (LaBreu, 2023), has also reflected on collective memory and the way we think about the past.
